As the Scriptures say…(22)
Eternal Security
I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one (John 10:28-30)
That ‘once saved, forever saved’ has to be made sense only in the context of the hand of the mightiest God begs no apology. Let us find out more about ourselves at the hand of God.
I give them eternal life…
- This is Jesus speaking of His disciples
- He has given them eternal life
- He personally secures eternal life for them
- Eternal life granted to us means
- No perishing of our souls
- No condemnation
- Life forever with God
- We are safely secured at the hand of Jesus the Christ
- No one will snatch us out of Jesus’ hand
- None of us will be snuffed out
My Father, who has given them to me
- It is the Father who draws us to Jesus Christ (John 6:44)
- It is the Father who teaches us about Jesus Christ (John 6:45-46)
- It is the Father who gives us to Jesus Christ as His disciples (Cf. John 17:9)
- This God who is the Father of the Lord Jesus is greater than all
- In wisdom and power (1 Cor.1:18-25)
- In love (Cf. 1Cor.13:4ff, Rom.5:8)
I and the Father are one
- This oneness between Jesus and the Father
- Is of ontological in nature
- Is of functional in purpose (meaning, salvific)
- At the hand of both Jesus the Messiah and God His Father
- We are doubly saved
- We are eternally secured
This is God’s total commitment to our well-being. Let us seek to live up to God’s grace of protection (and preservation) in Christ Jesus. May we learn to live, as we are predestined in Christ Jesus, to the praise of His glorious grace (Eph.1:5-6)!
